Lonely Mountain are an independent folk duo made up of brothers Archie & Finlay Johnson, from Llanfairfechan on the North Wales coast.
Their music blends indie folk with traditional folk influences, drawing on storytelling, rich harmonies and a deep connection to the outdoors. Their sound is shaped by the mountains, coastline and family sailing adventures that have been part of their lives, with subtle influences from Americana, country and other roots-inspired genres. The result is a sound that feels both grounded in folk tradition and distinctly their own.
Lonely Mountain is very much a family-run and DIY project. Archie and Finlay record and produce their own music from home, taking an active role in every part of the creative process. Their mum, Kate, helps manage bookings and the practical side of the band, while their dad supports them with videography and filmmaking. Their younger brother Charlie contributes artwork and merchandise, making the project a genuine family effort from the music itself through to how it is presented.
Much of their visual world is built around the landscape they call home. The brothers regularly film themselves performing on the mountain above their house, creating live videos that capture the natural surroundings and the atmosphere of their music. Through these videos and their social media, they’ve gradually built a strong community of like-minded people who share an appreciation for folk music, adventure and the outdoors.
Following two EPs, Lonely Mountain are currently working towards their debut album, expected in early 2027. Their UK Winter Tour will see the brothers bring their original music to intimate venues across the UK and Ireland, offering audiences the chance to experience their songs and harmonies live ahead of the album’s anticipated release.
With a growing community behind them and a strong connection to their roots, Lonely Mountain continue to build their own path as an independent family-run folk duo.
