Considered as one of the finest hard bop trumpeters, Donald Byrd was known for his biting, dynamic lines with a crackling sound and later celebrated as a champion of jazz/RnB crossover during the 1970s.
His 1975 record Places and Spaces is an out-and-out jazz-funk classic that perfectly showcases Byrd’s incredible musicianship and provided a rich source of samples for the hip-hop generation.
This February, London’s finest jazz musicians come together to play the album in full alongside some other Donald Byrd classics.
This event is not in association with Donald Byrd.
