The March Violets

Play Loud, Play Purple

Once Upon A Leeds, 1981. The March Violets strum their first riff and scrawl their first set list. Their impressive post-punk legacy stretches from 1980s BBC John Peel sessions, indie chart successes Radiant Boys EP, Grooving in Green,Snake Dance and Turn to the Sky (featured in the John Hughes movie, Some Kind of Wonderful), all the way to the 21st century reunion, headlining festivals across Europe & the USA and storming Record Store Day 2021 and 2022 with sell-out double albums Big Soul Kiss and Made Glorious.

Founder-members Rosie Garland (performer, poet and author) and Tom Ashton (guitarist, producer) are joined by Mat Thorpe (bassist and vocalist). The band has enjoyed rapturous receptions on UK / EU / USA tours, incl headline shows at legendary Wave Gotik Treffen (Germany), Levitation (Austin TX), A Murder of Crows (NYC), Southern Gothic (Athens GA), DarkMad (Madrid), Dark Malta, Deadinburgh & Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival (Whitby Goth Weekend, UK).

Plus – in 2024, The March Violets released Crocodile Promises (Metropolis Records). Their first album for 10 years, featuring all-new material.
