Bess Atwell (Full Band Show), The Bodega, Nottingham - 7th October 2019

Brighton-based singer-songwriter Bess Atwell writes the kind of songs that stop you in your tracks. Her crystal-clear voice and honest, closely observed lyrics have made her one of the most quietly captivating names in UK indie-folk, and she handles love, family and self-doubt with real tenderness. After her debut Hold Your Mind (2016) and the Big Blue EP (2019), she reached a much wider audience with Already, Always (2021), released on Lucy Rose's Real Kind Records. Songs like the BBC 6 Music favourite "Co-op" and "Time Comes in Roses" helped her build a devoted following.

Her third album, Light Sleeper (2024), saw her team up with The National's Aaron Dessner, who produced the record at his Long Pond Studio in upstate New York, and it won warm praise from critics. On the road, she's opened for The National, Ben Howard, Ed Sheeran and City and Colour, toured the UK and Europe with The Paper Kites, played festivals including Green Man, Latitude and Glastonbury, and headlined London's KOKO. At her shows, expect a hushed, spellbound room and a voice that sounds every bit as stunning live as it does on record.
