Bonnie “Prince” Billy is the long-running musical project of American singer-songwriter and actor Will Oldham, known for his deeply personal songwriting and distinctive blend of folk, country and indie music. Emerging in the 1990s through projects including Palace Music, Oldham adopted the Bonnie “Prince” Billy name with the release of I See a Darkness (1999), an album widely regarded as a landmark in alternative folk. His music is characterised by sparse arrangements, haunting vocals and introspective lyricism, earning him a devoted following across the independent music world.
Across a prolific career spanning more than three decades, Bonnie “Prince” Billy has released a vast catalogue of critically acclaimed albums, including Master and Everyone (2003), The Letting Go (2006) and Keeping Secrets Will Destroy You (2023). Renowned for intimate and unpredictable live performances, Oldham has toured extensively across the UK and internationally, including appearances at festivals such as Green Man. Alongside his music career, he has also appeared in films including Old Joy (2006) and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007).
