Cardinals are a five-piece band from Cork whose powerful debut album Masquerade captures the full spectrum of human experience — from light to darkness, hope to despair, compassion to chaos. Formed through family and friendship, the group features brothers Euan (vocals, guitar) and Finn Manning (accordion), their cousin Darragh (drums), and friends Oskar Gudinovic (guitar) and Aaron Hurley (bass). Emerging from a modest rehearsal room on Cork’s north side, Cardinals have quickly become one of the most exciting voices in Irish independent music. Masquerade finds them stepping boldly beyond their early influences to create something wholly their own — a record of emotional depth, sonic exploration and lyrical imagination.
Recorded at London’s RAK Studios with producer Shrink, Masquerade thrives on its “beautifully imperfect” energy, rejecting the polish of click tracks in favour of organic movement and real-time vulnerability. Its songs range from the violent urgency of Anhedonia and The Burning of Cork to the tenderness of As I Breathe, touching on themes of faith, identity, and the tension between beauty and brutality. With striking artwork by Norwegian-Irish painter Oda Sønderland and an unflinching sense of artistic honesty, Masquerade stands as both a statement of intent and a place of refuge — the sound of a band coming fully into their own.
