Cory Hanson is a Los Angeles–based singer, song-writer, and guitarist behind psychedelic rock band Wand, who also has a growing solo discography.
Originally active throughout Southern California’s underground scene, Cory Hanson played in various acts under the moniker WHITE (also stylized as WHITE) and performed with bands such as together PANGEA, The Meatbodies, and Mikal Cronin before forming Wand in 2013. As Wand’s frontman and guitarist, Hanson has helped steer the band toward critical acclaim with multiple albums under labels like GOD?, In the Red, and Drag City, by releasing works such as Ganglion Reef (2014), Golem (2015), and Vertigo (2024).
Hanson’s debut solo album, The Unborn Capitalist from Limbo, arrived in 2016 via Drag City. Blending pastoral folk-pop orchestration with psychedelic textures, critics hailed it as "a very pretty orchestrated folk-pop album" and "a pastoral gem".
Across his work, Hanson deftly blends folk, psych-rock, and country influences with poetic lyrics and emotive vocals. His evolving sound traverses intimate folk-pop, sprawling desert balladry, and surreal psych-rock fantasy, and yet remains grounded in heartfelt narrative and atmospheric nuance. Whether fronting Wand or on his own, Hanson’s musical identity is anchored in an adventurous spirit and a genre-blurring approach to song-writing.
