Current Joys is the enigmatic indie-rock solo project of Reno-born singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nick Rattigan, known for heart-wrenching, cinematic bedroom pop and indie-rock ballads.
Also the vocalist/drummer for Surf Curse, the American indie-surf rock band, Rattigan’s work under Current Joys blends emotional vulnerability with film-inspired narratives, having gained a significant following through platforms like YouTube. Rattigan is also a prolific visual artist, and often uses cinema as his muse and starting point for song-writing, and has cited the works of Alfred Hitchcock and Agnes Varda as influences to his work. By blending overt cinema influences with his song-writing, Rattigan produces an immersive listening experience.
Each piece of Current Joys’ previous discography is wholly built and envisioned by Rattigan, self-recorded and quickly released, quivering with a lonely intensity. Within six months of beginning the project, Current Joys had already released its debut, Wild Heart; by 2018, the sixth Current Joys full-length and visual album, A Different Age, was out. All the while, Current Joys’ profile quickly and quietly ascended, selling out venues like LA’s El Rey along with European tours, simultaneously amassing millions of streams of the catalogue, and a dedicated following.
