Daoiri Farrell, Firth Hall, Sheffield - 14th March 2026
Daoirí Farrell is a Dublin-born singer and bouzouki player whose journey from electrician to celebrated folk artist reflects a deep-rooted love for Irish tradition and a remarkable voice that has drawn comparisons with legends. Raised in the city’s Irish-language song-session scene at the club An Góilín Traditional Singers Club, Farrell studied further in Irish music performance and went on to win the All-Ireland Champion Singer title in 2013 at the Fleadh Cheoil. His debut solo album The First Turn (2009) marked his arrival, but it was True Born Irishman (2016) that truly established his standing—earning him two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Newcomer and Best Traditional Track.
Farrell has continued to evolve, balancing reverence for traditional song with spirited reinterpretations and original compositions. His 2019 record A Lifetime of Happiness and his most recent album The Wedding Above In Glencree (2023) reflect a mature artist at work—one who honours the past while making the form his own. Whether performing solo or with band, Farrell’s presence exudes warmth, conviction and storytelling—earning praise from the likes of Christy Moore and Dónal Lunny for being “one of the most important singers to emerge in the last decade”.
