Great show great musicians, music and unforgettable night in a cracking venue

The Allandale village hall was a great venue for Gong. Sounds were great and vivid. The band were fantastic. After show they came to meet the fans. Nice touch.

Gong, Allendale Village Hall, Allendale - 23rd May 2025

Gong are a British-French progressive rock band founded in Paris in (1967) by Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth, whose music blends psychedelic rock, space rock, jazz fusion and the Canterbury-scene spirit. Their landmark “Radio Gnome Invisible” trilogy — Flying Teapot (1973), Angel’s Egg (1973) and You (1974) — brought a surreal mythology of “Zero the Hero”, “Pot Head Pixies” and flying teapots, tying together alien-comedy, spiritual themes and musical adventurousness.

Over decades the band navigated many line-ups and incarnations, including the jazz-rock centred Pierre Moerlen's Gong era after Allen’s departure in 1975, and a modern revival from 2014 with guitarist/vocalist Kavus Torabi. Their more recent albums include Rejoice! I’m Dead! (2016), The Universe Also Collapses (2019) and Unending Ascending (2023). Their live shows have included UK appearances (for example in London) and their cult following thrives on the interplay of cosmic humour, instrumental exploration and communal spirit.
