Greg Freeman, the Vermont-based songwriter, made a quietly profound entrance into the music world with his debut album, I Looked Out, released in 2022. A captivating blend of indie rock with pastoral twang, the album explores vivid themes of shipwrecks, biblical visions, and doomed drifters, all while keeping room for hope and human connection. Freeman's powerful storytelling is paired with a raw urgency, whether in the tension-filled "Tower," the haunting country-laden "Souvenir Heart," or the cathartic finale of "Palms." The album, marked by its atmospheric arrangements of pedal steel, horns, and eerie strings, showcases Freeman’s ability to balance personal introspection with grander, apocalyptic imagery.

Originally self-released without the aid of industry promo, I Looked Out received widespread praise from outlets like Stereogum and Uproxx, despite its lack of PR campaign. Following the release, Freeman embraced the stage, touring relentlessly with a talented band that included bassist Lily Seabird and drummer Scott Maynard. His live shows have since found him sharing stages with A. Savage, Empty Country, and more. I Looked Out was so much more than a debut—it was a testament to Freeman’s creative courage, with a fresh sense of confidence and collaboration that pushes boundaries. The album has now been pressed to vinyl, and with new music and a full-length follow-up on the horizon in 2025, Freeman’s journey is just beginning.
