Led by French multi-instrumentalist Gautier Serre, Igorrr has built a reputation as one of modern music’s most unpredictable and genre-defying acts, blending breakcore, baroque, death metal, black metal, trip-hop, Balkan folk, and classical music into what fans often call “baroquecore.”

Released in 2020, Spirituality and Distortion expanded that vision even further. Inspired heavily by traditional eastern music and emotional contrasts, the album combines live instrumentation, operatic vocals, blast beats, electronic chaos, and extreme metal intensity across 14 wildly diverse tracks. Serre described the record as a journey through shifting emotional states rather than a single mood, embracing both spirituality and sonic violence.

Unlike many experimental electronic records, Spirituality and Distortion was largely recorded with live musicians and acoustic instruments, featuring collaborators such as Laure Le Prunenec, George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher, and numerous specialist instrumentalists playing oud, qanun, harpsichord, violin, accordion, and sitar. The result is a cinematic and chaotic fusion where medieval melodies collide with breakbeats, death growls, and orchestral arrangements.

The album followed the critical success of Savage Sinusoid, the band’s 2017 breakthrough on Metal Blade Records further cemented Igorrr’s cult status for both technical musicianship and fearless experimentation. Serre has cited influences ranging from Aphex Twin and Meshuggah to Johann Sebastian Bach and Cannibal Corpse: a combination that perfectly reflects Igorrr’s bizarre yet cohesive sound.
