Simply great playing

Ninety minutes of excellent playing from the entire band with great input from John Medeski on keyboards, Ted Poor on drums and Vincente Archer on bass. One of the best gigs I have been to in a long time.

John Scofield is one of the most influential jazz guitarists of his generation, celebrated for a sound that blends jazz improvisation with funk, blues, soul and rock. Emerging in the late seventies, his playing is instantly recognisable for its warm tone, rhythmic bite and inventive phrasing. Scofield’s approach balances technical mastery with deep groove, allowing his music to feel both sophisticated and accessible, whether performing intricate compositions or loose, funk-driven jams.

Across a prolific career, Scofield has released a vast catalogue of acclaimed albums as a bandleader while also collaborating with some of the most important figures in modern jazz. His work spans straight-ahead jazz, fusion, funk and experimental projects, reflecting a restless curiosity and refusal to be boxed into a single style. As a live performer, Scofield is renowned for his expressive improvisation and musical conversation, creating performances that feel spontaneous, dynamic and deeply rooted in the tradition of jazz innovation.
