A lovely venue. Top tier songwriting. Beautiful instrumentation. (Seemingly) effortless, dynamic vocal. Elliott would have loved it.

Marika Hackman, Union Chapel, London - 21st March 2025
The Cookie is hot, but a great cellar venue with friendly staff and customers. Marika was suffering from the heat, but put in an incredible performance, which went down well with the sold-out crowd. Wonderful - tunes, great performance and connection with the crowd.

Marika Hackman, The Big Difference (formerly The Cookie), Leicester - 15th November 2017
Marika Hackman is an English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for her distinctive voice, understated guitar work and lyrics that find beauty in life’s darker corners. She arrived with her debut album We Slept at Last (2015), a spare, folk-leaning record made with producer Charlie Andrew, then moved into bolder, grittier territory on I’m Not Your Man (2017), recorded with indie band The Big Moon and home to the single “Boyfriend”.
Her sound has kept evolving since, through the sharper, more candid pop of Any Human Friend (2019), the reworked favourites of Covers (2020) and the raw, string-laced Big Sigh (2024). A defining trait is her musicianship: she plays almost every instrument on her records herself, shaping each one from the ground up. A regular on the UK live and festival circuit, Hackman has headlined her own tours, supported Alt-J and Laura Marling, and played festivals including All Points East, bringing the same intimacy and craft to the stage as she does to her recordings.
