Born in Hackney, East London, Michael "Nicko" McBrain learned his trade on the pots and pans of his mum's kitchen before working his way through London's session scene and bands including Streetwalkers, Pat Travers Band and Trust. Then, in 1982, he joined Iron Maiden — and everything changed. Over a 42-year run with one of Britain's biggest ever bands, Nicko played on 14 studio albums, beginning with Piece of Mind (1983), and helped Maiden sell more than 100 million records worldwide, his powerful, technical drumming and irrepressible personality making him one of the most recognisable figures in heavy metal.

Away from the kit, Nicko is rock's great raconteur. Whether recalling his famous 80s appearance on The Sooty Show, life on the road with Maiden, or the highs and lows of an extraordinary career, he tells it all with warmth, candour and plenty of laughs. Part storytelling, part stand-up and part conversation with the audience, an evening in his company offers a front-row seat to one of metal's best-loved characters.
