Opeth, O2 Academy Bristol, Bristol - 3rd November 2019
Opeth are a Swedish progressive metal band formed in 1989 in Stockholm, whose masterful blend of death metal ferocity, progressive rock expansion and jazz-inflected nuance has earned them a powerful legacy. Over decades, frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt and his rotating lineup have crafted albums such as (2001) and (2005), which fused heavy riffs, haunting ambience and intricate composition to critical acclaim. Their tenth studio album, (2019), continued that evolution.
In 2024, Opeth released , their fourteenth studio album. The concept-record marks a return of death-metal growls for the first time since 2008 and introduces drummer Waltteri Väyrynen as a full member. Alongside festival appearances at major events such as Wacken Open Air and landmark tours supporting the likes of Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree, Opeth continue to shape the sound of progressive heavy music today.
