Orchestra Baobab, Union Chapel, London - 9th September 2023
Second night performance from the masters from Senegal. You couldn't help but smile all show and if you weren't up and able to dance, you couldn't help swaying to the rhythm. A privilege to see such talent and gratifying to see the legacy of this amazing group continuing as strong as ever. Long may you be able to record and grace us with your live performances. A delightful ambience which was almost divine at times. Magical. Thank you OB.

There was a wonderful cameraderie and playfulness between band members - you could tell they were loving it. The younger lead singer was brilliant - so respectful of the elder masters but he brought an energy that was totally infectious. And the guitarist, beautiful beautiful playing and performed with such quiet flare. The older members played with the easy elegance of a lifetime’s profession and the energy of men half their age. All of them brilliant. The Union Chapel a perfect venue. What a privelege.

Orchestra Babou superb, as usual they pulled out all the stops. An iconic venue, what a pity it was sweltering. We always go to see them when they are in London

Although the band has now lost most of its original members, there are some very talented musicians who have joined and the quality of the music is as good as ever. I felt the first half was a little lacklustre but the second half was brilliant and full of energy. I especially like the numbers with the African style vocals rather than the Cuban style songs . It was a very hot evening but they got everyone up dancing. A great night, thank you!

West Africa’s most iconic band, steeped in Afro-Cuban traditions, rightfully take their place in London’s Latin Music Festival. Almost half a century since their formation, Senegal’s Orchestra Baobab has returned with a timeless set of classic, swaying tunes in the group’s trademark style, fusing Afro-Cuban rhythm and Portuguese Creole melody with Congolese rumba and high life. Expect some special surprises.
