The prospect of seeing Richard Hawley and his brilliant band (complete with an excellent string section) at the iconic Grand Pier at Western Super Mare was too good to miss. They duly delivered a 2 hour plus trawl through a wonderful back catalogue centred around his masterpiece ‘Coles Corner’. His connection with the audience lent the evening a warm intimacy - which combined with the beautiful melodies to create a magical event. The walk back down the pier across the water with the stunning harbour finished off a brilliant night.

Wonderful artist. Super tight band. Great rapport with the audience. Up there with one of the most enjoyable gigs I’ve ever been to.

Richard Hawley, TramShed, Cardiff - 2nd December 2024
Richard Hawley is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist known for his atmospheric, melancholic sound that blends elements of rock, folk, and classic pop. Hailing from Sheffield, Hawley first gained recognition as a member of the band Longpigs before establishing himself as a solo artist with his debut album, Late Night Final (2001). His distinctive baritone voice and mastery of guitar have since become central to his music, drawing comparisons to artists like Roy Orbison, Scott Walker, and Elvis Presley.
Hawley’s albums, including Coles Corner (2005) and Truelove's Gutter (2009), showcase his ability to evoke a deep sense of nostalgia and emotion, with sweeping arrangements and cinematic production. His music often features lush string sections, reverb-soaked guitars, and rich, poetic lyrics that transport listeners to another time and place. A revered live performer, Hawley has played at prestigious venues such as London’s Royal Albert Hall and has toured internationally. His blend of timeless melodies and evocative storytelling continues to win him critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase.
