THE SKIDS, Leeds Beckett Students Union, Leeds - 27th March 2026
Skids are a legendary Scottish punk rock band that emerged from the vibrant post-punk scene of the late 1970s. Formed in Dunfermline in 1977, the band quickly became known for their energetic performances, politically charged lyrics, and a sound that blended punk with new wave, post-punk, and a touch of anthemic rock.
Their debut album Scared to Dance (1979) is often hailed as a seminal release in the punk and new wave movements, with songs like "Into the Valley" becoming iconic anthems of the era. Known for their distinctive sound, The Skids fused raw punk energy with a more melodic sensibility, a combination that earned them a dedicated following in the UK and beyond. Tracks such as "The Saints Are Coming" and "Working for the Yankee Dollar" showcased the band's knack for capturing social and political themes while maintaining an infectious energy.
The band's lineup has evolved over the years, but they remain a defining presence in British punk rock. Despite taking a break in the 1980s, The Skids reunited in 2007 and have since continued to perform and record new material, proving their enduring appeal. Their legacy is cemented not only in their musical contributions but in their role in shaping the punk scene and influencing generations of bands to come.
