Amazing show! better than ever 40 odd years later, fun show as well
1980's bands are still the best, REAL musicians, who can stand up with no special affects and just play! Fun show they all have a great sense of humour being older now. Bonus support act in Dexy Midnight Runners Paul Williams. Great Venue, nice and central, not to big, and my first front row experience!

Solid performance
The Blow Monkeys — 37 Years On In 1989, at the age of 18, I bought Choices by The Blow Monkeys. Fast forward 37 years and I found myself standing in the crowd watching them perform live — something that felt both wonderfully nostalgic and slightly surreal. Even better, I was there with my wife, who is American and remembers The Blow Monkeys from their success on the US Billboard charts. Two people from opposite sides of the Atlantic, brought together by a love of the same music all those years ago, now sharing the experience of hearing it performed live. And what a performance it was. Robert Howard remains an absolute presence on stage. Cool, charismatic and completely at home in front of an audience, he still has that unmistakable style that made The Blow Monkeys stand out in the first place. There was no sense of simply going through the motions — this was a band that clearly still enjoys playing together. Neville Henry was superb, switching effortlessly between saxophone and keyboards and adding so much colour and soul to the performance. Mick Anker on bass was equally impressive, providing the groove and foundation that kept everything locked in, while the drummer deserves huge credit for driving the whole show and bringing all those individual elements together. The set was a fantastic reminder of just how good those songs are. Hearing them live after all these years wasn't simply a trip down memory lane; it was a reminder that great music doesn't have an expiry date. And Strings proved to be a terrific venue for the occasion. A great atmosphere, an intimate feel and exactly the sort of setting where you can really appreciate a band performing live. It added to what was already a memorable night. Walking out afterwards, I couldn't help thinking about that 18-year-old who bought Choices back in 1989. He certainly wouldn't have believed that, nearly four decades later, he'd be watching The Blow Monkeys live with his wife — and loving every minute of it. 37 years later, the music still sounds great, the band still has the magic, and some records really do stay with you for life. What a gig. What a band. What a night.

Great gig
The Drill was a venue we'd never been to before but it's one we would definitely visit again as it's a smaller more intimate venue, and the staff were lovely. The support act Burr Island were an unexpected treat, we did not know anything about these guys but really enjoyed their set, even bought their cd afterwards. The Blow Monkeys certainly didn't disappoint either playing hit after hit. A band who sound as fresh today as they did back in the 80s. All in all a brilliant night out.

The Blow Monkeys are a defining name in glamorous eighties pop, known for their sharp songwriting, stylish sound and irresistible blend of pop, soul and jazz influences.
