A delighful surprise

Ostensibly I came to see Pearl Handled Revolver who were the support band (who were also very good) as I'd never come across TED. A really tight band where the inerplay between the four musicians was key to the panoramic sound. Highly recommended

The Emerald Dawn, The Robin, Wolverhampton - 22nd September 2024

Emerald dawn

Having missed this band at fusion earlier this year, I was hoping that I had missed something! And boy was I right , they are a far superior live band , albums don’t do them justice . You have to see them to experience just how good they are !!

The Emerald Dawn, The Robin, Wolverhampton - 22nd September 2024

An afternoon at The Robin

I'd cone to see The Emerald Dawn. I'd caught them earlier in the year at 45 Live in Kidderminster, and thought they were very good, and their choice of support, The John Hackett Band were pretty good too, so I was intrigued by the support choice of Pearl Handled Revolver. I was not disappointed, they delivered with aplomb and energy, ice marked them as a band to explore more. The Emerald Dawn also delivered their set with aplomb, but there was one disappointment that I had encountered in Kidderminster. The drums (and cymbals) were sadly so loud, to my ears at least, that they often drowned out keyboards and guitar. I like the haunting sounds coming from the keyboards and the guitar, but they had to fight to be heard. A real shame, as that's not the case in the studio recordings. Apart from that it was a very enjoyable gig, and The Robin is a a nice sized venue, with friendly staff.

Emerald Dawn are the tops!

A superb, classy prog band. The keyboard sounds is influencial with guitar and sax, laid skillfully over the top. The drums and bass complement the lead sounds perfectly. The mix at Bilston was spot on. A truly amazing evening.

The Emerald Dawn, The Robin, Wolverhampton - 22nd September 2024

The Emerald Dawn were formed in 2010 in Edinburgh by Katrina “Tree” Stewart and Alan “Ally” Carter, before relocating to St Ives, Cornwall, where they were joined by jazz drummer Thomas Jackson. Describing themselves as a multi-instrumentalist, symphonic progressive rock group, the band blend elements of classical music, jazz and rock to create a sound that is both expansive and distinctive. Their name reflects an environmentalist spirit, matched by music that feels thoughtful, exploratory and rich in atmosphere.

Their debut album Searching For The Lost Key was released on 8th October 2014 and received widespread airplay on progressive rock radio stations around the world. The follow-up, Visions, released on 21st August 2017, saw the addition of multi-instrumentalist Jayjay Quick on bass and strings, with artwork created by Tree Stewart herself. Often compared to the spirit of Pink Floyd and Steve Hackett, the album cemented their place within modern progressive music. The band’s third release, Nocturne, arrived on 1st February 2019, introducing bassist David Greenaway and showcasing a more instrumental-led, cinematic side to The Emerald Dawn’s evolving sound.
