Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats, Brudenell Social Club, Leeds - 16th January 2019
Formed in Cambridge in 2009 by Kevin Starrs, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats have built a reputation for their dark, hypnotic take on psychedelic rock. Drawing on the melodic quirks of 1960s psych-pop and the heavy edge of early metal, their sound feels both nostalgic and unsettlingly fresh. Breakthrough albums like Blood Lust (2011) and Mind Control(2013) introduced their eerie harmonies and fuzz-drenched riffs to a wider audience, with tracks such as "Poison Apple" and "Shockwave City" becoming fan favourites.
Known for their immersive live shows, the band have shared stages with acts including Black Sabbath and appeared at major festivals such as Download and Hellfest. Their latest release, Nell’ Ora Blu (2024), continues to expand their sonic world, earning praise for its cinematic scope and brooding atmosphere. Consistently defying easy categorisation, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats remain one of the most distinctive voices in modern heavy music.
