Altered Images are a pioneering Scottish new wave and post-punk band who formed in 1979 and quickly became a key force in the alternative landscape of the early eighties. Fronted by the charismatic Clare Grogan, the band blended bright, hook-driven pop with artful post-punk edges, creating a sound that felt both playful and defiantly individual. Their first three albums – Happy Birthday (1981), Pinky Blue (1982) and Bite (1983) – captured the vibrancy of that era, producing a string of standout singles including “Happy Birthday”, “I Could Be Happy”, “See Those Eyes” and “Don’t Talk to Me About Love”.
Following a long hiatus, Altered Images returned with Mascara Streakz (2022), a record that reintroduced their unmistakable charm while bringing a modern sheen to their classic new wave sensibilities. Their legacy continues to thrive through their timeless hooks, distinctive visual style and ongoing influence on alternative pop. Whether revisiting their early hits or exploring fresh material, Altered Images remain a beloved and iconic presence in the UK music scene.
