Brilliant gig, wonderful band.

Due to complications around Covid and illness in the band we'd been waiting a couple of years to attend this gig, but it was certainly worth the wait. The band were polished but not lifeless, the playlist was drawn from old and new, in the interaction with the audience felt warm and intimate. Just what I want from a live band.......and what songs!!

Belle & Sebastian, The Great Hall, Cardiff Students’ Union, Cardiff - 15th July 2023

Great band on top form

If you know Belle & Sebastian you already love them, so seeing them live is the cherry on the cake. If you haven't seen them live yet jump to it! They absolutely smashed it at the Liverpool Olympia - banger after banger with no let-up. The audience was treated to almost a "best of" compilation from their extensive back catalogue, and even the new tracks were welcome (possibly thanks to lockdown, as the new album came out last year, so the crowd knew the music anyway). A great night was had by the crowd, by the band, and even by the bar staff who were boogying away behind the counters.

Belle & Sebastian, Eventim Olympia, Liverpool - 8th July 2023

On Form

B&S on form..loved the video backdrop. Good set with a couple of exceptions for me. Interactive as always. Encore lifted the roof. Not a great fan of Rock City as a venue...viewing position always an issue but a really fun night.

Belle & Sebastian, Rock City, Nottingham - 10th March 2018

Belle and Sebastian are a Scottish indie pop band formed in Glasgow in 1996. Led by singer-songwriter Stuart Murdoch, the group are celebrated for their intricate, literate songwriting and their gentle, melodic sound that fuses folk-pop warmth with orchestral grace. Their music often features lush arrangements of strings, brass and woodwinds, alongside wistful vocals and bittersweet humour.

Their debut albums Tigermilk and If You’re Feeling Sinister established Belle and Sebastian as cult favourites, praised for their storytelling and emotional intelligence. Follow-up releases such as The Boy with the Arab Strap and Dear Catastrophe Waitress expanded their sonic palette while maintaining their trademark intimacy. Drawing comparisons to artists like Nick Drake, The Velvet Underground and The Smiths, the band’s influence can be felt across a generation of indie and alternative musicians. Decades on, Belle and Sebastian remain a cornerstone of British indie music — literate, tender and quietly defiant in their charm.
