Dur-Dur Band are a legendary Somali ensemble who emerged from Mogadishu’s vibrant music scene in the early nineteen-eighties. Blending funk, disco, soul and traditional Somali rhythms, they became one of the most influential groups of their era, known for their uplifting grooves and rich vocal harmonies. Their early releases, including the much-loved Volume 5 (1985), captured the optimism and creative energy of the city, with swirling synths, hypnotic basslines and melodies that carried both joy and cultural pride. Even decades later, their recordings feel fresh, colourful and full of life.


Following the dispersal of Somalia’s arts community during the civil unrest of the nineties, Dur-Dur Band’s original tapes became rare treasures, with fans across the world seeking out their infectious sound. Renewed interest in their catalogue has led to reissues, global recognition and a new wave of listeners discovering their timeless blend of East African rhythms and dance-floor spirit.
