Fergus McCreadie is a Scottish pianist and composer whose music blends contemporary jazz with the spirit and textures of Scottish folk, evoking the country’s landscapes through melody, rhythm and atmosphere. He has developed a distinctive voice in piano writing that feels both expansive and intimate, rooted in place while speaking to audiences far beyond it. His rise has been defined by a rare ability to combine technical precision with emotional openness, creating music that feels immersive, grounded and deeply expressive.
His breakthrough album Forest Floor (2022, Edition Records) brought international acclaim, topping the UK Jazz & Blues Chart and earning a Mercury Prize shortlist nomination alongside major awards including Jazz FM Instrumentalist of the Year and the Scottish Album of the Year — the first time a jazz artist received the latter. He followed this with The Shieling, recorded in a remote cottage in North Uist, drawing directly from its elemental surroundings; the album reached number one on the OCC Jazz & Blues Chart and received widespread critical praise. Alongside touring extensively across the UK and Europe, McCreadie has expanded into film scoring and large-scale collaborations, while continuing to develop his work through residencies and international performances, cementing his status as one of the most compelling voices in modern jazz.
