As always Gun put on an amazing show! It's always over too quickly. Great to hear some new tracks and of course the brilliant older songs we love !

Gun at their best
It's always a joy to watch Gun at the Barrowlands. These guys call it home and treat it like the best night of the year. Magnificent as always.

GUN rock the house down
The usual pre Christmas gig from Glasgow’s own GUN : a regular occurrence and as usual the band didn’t disappoint right down to their choice of support. GUN always pick a great support band and this was no exception, with The Godfathers producing a loud, aggressive and flawless performance that got full backing from those that had turned up to see them. The set was peppered with a selection from their ‘Best of’ eg The is War, If I Only Had Time , interspersed with some newer songs from the revamped and re-energised band. Their finish was the stonking Birth School Work Death and that set the scene nicely for the main event. GUN have a new album “Hombres” due for release in April 24, and the set featured tracks from this , all well received, including current single All Fired Up , and their new single due out in January which will feature the Barrowlands Choir in full volume. By the sound of it, this new album is a return to the brilliance of old, with Guiliano “Jools” Gizzi proving once again that when it comes to killer riffs and scorching lead solos he is “ on the Money”. Of course everyone loves her ( Money) which was another in their set, alongside perennial favourites Don’t Say It’s Over, Better Days, Word Up and Steal Your Fire amongst others. An accoustic version of “Taking On The World” had the crowd singing, and the band finished with another crowd favourite ( and frequent closer) Shame On You. This mini tour featured a return to the drum seat for Paul McManus , happily recovered from cancer earlier in the year and boy did he gie those skins ‘laldy’. What a powerhouse performance. Brand new second guitarist Ruaridh MacLennan did a great job - he’s not been in the band long, taking over from Tommy Gentry, but you wouldn’t have known that : things augur well for next year which promises to be another busy year for the boys. Probably one of the best if not THE best of GUN gigs since they reformed ( has it really been more than 10 years since they came back with a vengeance? ) and they show no signs of stopping or resting on their laurels. Dante’s voice was much better ( due to being in good health) compared to some previous Christmas gigs where he has been suffering from the flu and as for the old lady The Barrowlands? …….well 40 years on, from when Simple Minds launched the venue as an addition to the Glasgow scene, replacing in many ways the fondly remembered Apollo, nothing has changed: there’s still a mirror ball, the toilets are basic, the bars plentiful, the posters don’t seem to have been replaced, and it still takes ages to get out the building. And for us ‘auld yins’ 3 hours of standing does havoc to one’s knees. But you only feel the pain once the music has stopped- whilst the action is happening it’s the music that’s the winner. And that of course is how it should be.

GUN are a hard rock four-piece from Glasgow. First formed in 1987, the band now consists of members Dante Gizzi (lead vocals), Giuliano "Jools" Gizzi (guitar), Paul McManus (drums), Andy Carr (bass) and Davie Aitken (guitar).
They have released eight studio albums, including Taking on the World (1989), Gallus (1992), Swagger (1994), 0141 632 6326 (1997), Break the Silence (2012), Frantic (2015), Favourite Pleasures (2017) and The Calton Songs (2022).
