Brilliant, and I've got no regrets

Great venue, and Gwenno gave a remarkable performance, lively, amusing asides, thought provoking, and all in languages I can't understand, even if I can now know enough to order cheese in Cornwall. I've seen Gwenno 6 times in various guises always worth catching.

Gwenno, Hoxton Hall, London - 12th April 2018

Gwenno at The Bullingdon, Oxford. Great gig and venue.

Gwenno's an entertaining front lady with a solid band behind her - her bass player is a bit of a virtuoso - amazing. Always good to hear a bit of a story behind the songs, especially when they are in Cornish! Great voice. Enjoyed support 'Omaloma' too, two of whom were also part of Gwenno's band. Had not been to The Bullingdon before, but it's a good little venue. Shall be looking out for more gigs there in future.

Gwenno, The Bullingdon, Oxford - 23rd March 2018

Gwenno is a boundary-pushing artist from Cardiff whose music blends psych-pop, electronic textures and rich cultural heritage. A former member of The Pipettes, Gwenno stepped into solo territory with Y Dydd Olaf (2015), sung almost entirely in Welsh and inspired by a dystopian sci-fi novel. Her 2018 follow-up Le Kov deepened this exploration, drawing on her Cornish roots with an album sung entirely in Cornish — a bold, passionate statement that brought minority languages into the alt-pop spotlight. Both records received critical acclaim, with Le Kov earning a spot on the Mercury Prize shortlist.

Gwenno’s live performances are immersive and thought-provoking, featuring appearances at Green Man, End of the Road and Glastonbury. Her most recent album, Tresor (2022), continues to fuse political commentary with dreamlike sonics, and was again shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. With a fiercely independent spirit and a dedication to celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity, Gwenno remains one of the UK’s most innovative and down-to-earth voices in contemporary music.
