Sweet

"I like the album, but she's soooo sweet, I never realised!" the woman behind me enthused. She was right. On stage, Hollie Cook is a sweet and endearing presence on stage, backed by an excellent band. A loyal crowd, many of whom seemed more like Hollie's friends and family than paying customers, added to the occasion.

Hollie Cook, Scala, London - 3rd October 2018

Gorilla venue, Gereral Roots & Hollie Cook.

What a venue to watch a live act, real cosy place but not packed in still room to move about. Hollie Cook and General Roots are top live music, could not fault the night. Thanks all.

Hollie Cook, Gorilla, Manchester - 11th February 2018

Hollie Cook is a London-born singer and songwriter whose music radiates love in all its forms — from the euphoric to the bittersweet. Daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, she grew up surrounded by music and drew early inspiration from ‘60s girl groups, Motown, and the pioneers of lovers rock such as Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon. Her artistic journey began with the post-punk icons The Slits, where frontwoman Ari Up inspired her to embrace individuality and confidence. This experience paved the way for her solo career, which took off with her self-titled debut album (2011), produced by Prince Fatty, followed by Twice (2014), and the acclaimed Vessels of Love (2018) and Happy Hour (2022).

Now, with her fifth album Shy Girl (2025), Hollie Cook returns to her roots while evolving her sound. Recorded across New York, LA, Spain, and London with The General Roots Band, the album captures both vulnerability and strength through shimmering grooves and heartfelt lyrics. Songs such as Night Night, Rockaway and Rivers Run Deep reveal a self-assured artist unafraid to bare her soul. Fifteen years into her career, Cook remains reggae’s voice of love — honest, tender, and timeless.
