As happens each time I see Katie Malco, tonight’s performance was a unique and entertaining experience. Something new always happens to give the night a focus - in this case the sad passing of Daniel Johnston and an unfortunate bike accident that had left Katie with her wrist in plaster. As such we were rewarded with a beautiful cover of DJ, lots of stories as the bandaged wrist struggled with different tunings, and around that a powerful collection of Katie’s songs both old and new (including her latest, Creatures). In the songs, her voice is one of the most effortlessly powerful, and her tunes are driving and delicious in equal parts. All coming together into a brilliant evening.
