Not what I was expecting

Republica and Saffron rocked an hour long set, so much energy behind great tunes - Saffron so much energy, Robin is a great venue, great all round.

Republica, The Robin, Wolverhampton - 24th June 2023

Republica is a British band best known for their explosive fusion of alternative rock, electronic music, and techno-pop.

Formed in London in the mid-1990s, the group rose to prominence during the height of the UK’s electronic and indie crossover scene. Fronted by the charismatic Saffron, whose distinctive vocals became the band’s signature, Republica quickly gained attention for their high-octane sound and futuristic aesthetic.

Their self-titled debut album, Republica (1996), propelled them into international recognition, driven by the hit singles “Ready to Go” and “Drop Dead Gorgeous.” “Ready to Go” in particular became an enduring anthem, widely featured in films, commercials, and sporting events thanks to its energetic, rebellious spirit.

Republica’s music is characterized by driving beats, distorted guitars, and anthemic choruses, blending the intensity of rock with the pulse of electronic dance music. While their mainstream peak was concentrated in the late ’90s, the band has maintained a loyal following and continues to perform and release music, cementing their legacy as pioneers of the electro-rock sound.

With their bold style and genre-defying approach, Republica remain an influential presence in the evolution of British alternative and electronic music.
