Great music from some unbelievably good musicians. However I would have liked to hear more of Richard. Sound was unbalanced - drums too loud, bass too quiet.

Richard Thompson, Royal Albert Hall, London - 8th June 2024
Henry is 1 of a kind. Nobody plays the guitar like him.Nobody sings like him. Nobody writes songs like him. He matures like a fine wine. I just hope he continues for a lot longer!

Richard Thompson, New Theatre Cardiff, Cardiff - 4th June 2024
Less like a gig, more like a gathering of old friends. The New Theatre was the perfect venue for this. Even from up in the circle seats, there was the feeling of a closeup, intimate performance. Richard and the band were in good form, with a nice mix of tracks from the new album ‘Ship to Shore’ and older material spanning almost his entire post Fairport career. At 75 Richard’s guitar playing still sparkles. All round a fantastic evening.

The concert lived up to my expectations - loved it! Excellent performance from Richard & the band. Special praise for Zak, his grandson, whose musical talent is obviously in the genes! I especially enjoyed Richard's solo renditions of the old favourites.

Richard Thompson, Victoria Hall, Stoke-on-Trent - 1st June 2024
Veteran singer-songwriter Richard Thompson casts a rare kind of spell through music, weaving gorgeous melodies around richly detailed, story-driven lyrics. A master of the six-string, his guitar playing is as expressive as his songwriting, moving effortlessly between delicate restraint and virtuosic fire. Whether performing solo or with a full band, Thompson’s work is defined by emotional depth, sharp observation and an unmistakable musical voice that has remained vital across decades.
Born in Notting Hill, Thompson is widely recognised as one of the world’s great songwriters and guitarists. His influence reaches far beyond folk and roots music, with artists including R.E.M., Elvis Costello and David Byrne all citing him as a major inspiration. Across his career he has received multiple Grammy nominations and an Ivor Novello Award, cementing his reputation as a true original. His song “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” was named in Time magazine’s list of the All-Time 100 Songs, a fitting acknowledgement of a body of work that continues to captivate audiences through vivid storytelling, musical brilliance and timeless craft.
