Seckou Keita , The Jazz Cafe, London - 20th February 2024
The overwhelming memories that will stick with me from this gig are his clear musical talent but also Seckou’s smile. He clearly loves what he does and although the musical side is already incredible his smile and personality made for a very different, unique musical experience. In times of general unrest, turbulence and so much negativity it was so nice to be be reminded that there is love and positivity in the world too! Thankyou SK x

Seckou Keita , The Jazz Cafe, London - 20th February 2024
Seckou Keita is a world-renowned kora virtuoso whose artistry has made him one of the most celebrated figures in African traditional and contemporary music. Born in Southern Senegal into a griot lineage, he grew up immersed in the storytelling, rhythm and cultural heritage that shape West African musical identity. From a young age, his extraordinary talent on the kora was unmistakable, and his innovative approach has continued to expand what the instrument can express — blending tradition with new harmonic ideas, cross-cultural influences and a remarkable emotional depth. Across a rich discography of fourteen critically acclaimed albums and millions of listeners worldwide, he has become a powerful ambassador for the music of his homeland.
On stage, Keita is a mesmerising performer. His playing carries a rare combination of technical brilliance and deep spiritual warmth, creating a sound that is both intricate and profoundly moving. Collaborations with artists across folk, classical, jazz and global music have earned him prestigious awards, including multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, and have introduced his work to audiences far beyond the traditional kora world. Whether performing solo or within collaborative projects, he brings a sense of generosity, history and innovation that continues to inspire listeners around the world.
