Having followed Steve's work over the decades with Show of Hands we knew to expect high quality songwriting matched by his inimitable delivery but working with this new band elevated the material to an all time high

Steve Knightley & The Winter Yards Band, The Gate, Cardiff - 5th November 2025

Steve Knightley is an English singer-songwriter and musician best known as the frontman of the acclaimed folk duo Show of Hands. Renowned for his evocative storytelling and rich baritone voice, Knightley has been a key figure in the UK folk scene for decades, crafting songs that capture the essence of rural life, social struggles, and the human experience.

Born in Somerset, Knightley’s songwriting draws deeply from English folk traditions while incorporating contemporary themes. His compositions, such as "Country Life" and "Roots", reflect both nostalgia and sharp social commentary, earning him a reputation as one of folk music’s most insightful lyricists. Alongside multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer in Show of Hands, he has played at iconic venues like the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury Festival, captivating audiences with their blend of traditional and modern folk.

Beyond Show of Hands, Knightley has pursued a solo career, releasing albums that further showcase his storytelling prowess and deep connection to the landscapes and histories of the West Country. Whether performing solo or as part of a group, his music remains deeply personal, politically aware, and rooted in the folk tradition.
