Never seen The Joy Formidable before but I had heard many of their songs previously. Very consistent set and the interaction between the two is obvious and funny. Ritzy is mesmerising (sorry Rhidian) right down to her shoes. Love the passion. Only disappointment for me was that they didn't play a few of my favourites e.g Abacus, Ladder, as well as "Share my Heat" particularly as it is newish song and a banger. SayIng that, they have a huge back catalogue from which to choose. Great to see them back and looking forward to hearing the new songs.

The Joy Formidable, The Bunkhouse, Swansea - 5th June 2026
I was fortunate to witness a low-key, intimate performance by TJF in a Cardiff church, last year. It was endearing, to the extent that I jumped at the opportunity to see their progress in a crowded, sticky-floor Swansea venue. It was a contrasting, aggressive vibe but delivered with warmth and humour. I hope they are embraced by the masses of Cure fans in their upcoming support in Cardiff.

Great venue - great support bands and the Joy Formidable were superb and special shout out for the Wolf Orchestra who added an extra dimension to the performance.

The Joy Formidable, Clapham Grand DNU, London - 28th September 2023
The Joy Formidable are a Welsh alternative rock band formed in Mold, Flintshire, in 2007. The core lineup consists of Rhiannon "Ritzy" Bryan (vocals, guitar) and Rhydian Dafydd (bass, vocals). They are known for their expansive sound that blends elements of shoegaze, post-punk, and dream pop. Their debut EP, A Balloon Called Moaning, was released in 2008, followed by their debut studio album, The Big Roar, in 2011. The album received critical acclaim and helped establish the band as a prominent force in the alternative rock scene.
Subsequent albums include Wolf's Law (2013), Hitch (2016), and AAARTH (2018). In 2021, they released their fifth studio album, Into the Blue, showcasing a more introspective and expansive sound. The band has been praised for their dynamic live performances and their ability to evolve their sound while maintaining their distinctive style. As of October 2024, drummer Matt Thomas has left the band, marking a new chapter in their musical journey.
