The Lemonheads are an American alternative rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1986 by singer, guitarist and songwriter Evan Dando. Emerging from the city’s punk scene, they soon developed a melodic sound that bridged jangly indie pop with a punk-rooted edge. After several early underground releases, the band broke through with It’s a Shame About Ray (1992), an album that became a defining record of the early 1990s alternative era. With Dando’s warm, unguarded vocals and wry lyricism, songs such as “Confetti”, “Alison’s Starting to Happen” and their cover of “Mrs Robinson” cemented their place in alt-rock history.
The band followed up with Come On Feel the Lemonheads (1993), featuring fan favourites like “Into Your Arms”, before Dando took a hiatus that saw him pursue solo work and collaborations. Later records such as The Lemonheads (2006) and Varshons 2 (2019) proved their staying power, keeping their bittersweet blend of melody and melancholy alive. Known for their timeless songwriting and easy-going charm, The Lemonheads continue to tour internationally, connecting generations of fans to their heartfelt, unpretentious brand of rock.
