They’ve Still Got It

Great night with group on top form. Plenty of old songs from the first few albums with the classic Green Fields of France alone making it worth me venturing out on a cold dark Thursday evening but I’m so glad I did. I mustn’t leave it another 30 years before I see them again!

The Men They Couldn't Hang 40th Anniversary tour hits Guildford , Suburbstheholroyd, Guildford - 3rd October 2024

on fire 40 years and just getting stronger

so sunday I went down to derby to the hairy dog.TO see TMTCH on their 40yh anniversary tour.My second gig on this tour.I have seen the band many times over the years.the support band black water country were amazing never seen them before did not know any of their songs but they were tight full of energy with great songs they really delivered and there audience loved them and so did I.Go and see them punk, rock, and some Irish elements fused into an very exciting mix!The men were on fire from the get go and they did deliver song after song from 40 years past the well known numbers which were flawless and songs not heard in many a year special shout out to Tom Spencer ,whos addition has brought much to the band .No one could ever replace Cush and of course the band have changed since he sadly passed away but they are a fantastic live band who care about their fans Every single member of the band is an accomplished musician and they simply write powerful and relevant songs.not seen them you should!

The Men They Couldn't Hang, The Hairy Dog, Derby - 15th September 2024

Wonderful gig

This group TMTCH, was better than I anticipated. The violinist was amazing. They were very friendly and mixed with the fans afterwards. I particularly enjoyed the song about red kites. I thought that the support group were amazing-Black Water County- they had great energy and were the perfect mix with TMTCH .

The Men They Couldn't Hang, The Hairy Dog, Derby - 15th September 2024

The Men They Couldn’t Hang are a landmark British folk rock band, formed in London in 1984 and widely recognised as key figures in the genre’s politically charged revival. Blending traditional folk storytelling with punk urgency and roots rock grit, the band quickly carved out a powerful and distinctive sound. Their debut album Night of a Thousand Candles (1985) introduced their uncompromising approach, followed by influential releases including How Green Is the Valley (1986) and Waiting for Bonaparte (1988), records that firmly established their place in British alternative music.

Renowned for emotionally charged songwriting and passionate live performances, The Men They Couldn’t Hang became known for songs such as “Ghosts of Cable Street” and “Ironmasters”, which remain enduring highlights of their catalogue. After an initial split in 1991, the band reformed in 1996 and have continued to record and tour, maintaining a devoted following across the UK and beyond. Fiercely down-to-earth and driven by powerful narratives, The Men They Couldn’t Hang remain a vital voice in British folk rock, celebrated for their honesty, conviction and storytelling strength.
