The Real Thing put on a brilliant show and their performance rocked the Blue Room/Kitchen (26.Nov’25) Such a great venue for them to perform in. The atmosphere was buzzing and so happy. Didn’t want it to end as we were enjoying it so so much. The Real Thing have still ‘got it’ - wow! Also enjoyed the DJ set before the gig and the dancing. It was all perfect in every way in my opinion. Been to a lot of gigs over my many years and this more intimate scale was just wonderful. The event staff were friendly and helpful. Very professional overall. Thank you.

The Real Thing, Electric Bristol, Bristol - 25th August 2017
The Real Thing is a British soul and funk band from Liverpool, best known for their chart-topping hits in the 1970s and 1980s. Formed in 1972 by Chris Amoo, Dave Smith, Kenny Davis, and Ray Lake, they became pioneers of British soul, blending funk, disco, and R&B with socially conscious lyrics. Their biggest hit, You to Me Are Everything (1976), reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and remains a classic. Other notable songs include Can’t Get By Without You and Can You Feel the Force?, both of which cemented their place in pop history.
The Real Thing were one of the first successful Black British bands, paving the way for future UK soul and R&B artists. Over the years, they have continued to tour extensively, performing at festivals and venues across the UK and Europe. Despite lineup changes, including the passing of Ray Lake, the band’s music remains timeless, with their hits still widely celebrated and sampled by modern artists.
