The gig at Thekla was definitely in my top 10 gigs I've ever seen. Up there with Motorhead in 1977 at a venue the size of Thekla, and Zeppelin in 1979 at Knebworth. The support were terrific too, but nothing could have prepared me for the onslaught that was The Scratch. A good natured mosh pit went on for most of the time but it didn't detract from the brilliant show - we even got Ace Of Spades during the encore! Fantastic!

The Scratch, Thekla, Bristol - 26th April 2026
The Scratch are a high-energy four-piece act from Dublin, Ireland, who blend the raw intensity of metal with the rich traditions of Irish music. Formed out of a shared love for both genres, the band has developed a unique sound that fuses triumphant melodies with powerful grooves. What began as a fun experiment in a Dublin kitchen soon turned into a major force in the Irish music scene, thanks to their viral busking performance at the Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon in 2017, which amassed over one million views in just a week.
The band’s debut album, released in 2020, hit #9 on the Irish Album Charts and #2 on the Independent Charts, breaking records for vinyl sales. With each Dublin headliner selling out, including shows at The Underground, The Grand Social, Whelans, and the Button Factory, The Scratch’s energetic live performances have become legendary. Their biggest show to date at The Academy sold out in just four days. The band’s DIY approach extends to their videos, with all their content—ranging from the high-octane "God Slap" to the scenic "The Road to Ballyshannon"—shot and edited by the band themselves. To truly experience The Scratch, you have to see them live—where their infectious energy guarantees a good time for anyone in the crowd.
