The Skints, The Hairy Dog, Derby - 4th May 2017
The Skints are the torchbearers of modern UK reggae, blending elements of ska, dub, punk, and dancehall into their unmistakable sound. Hailing from East London, the four-piece—Josh Waters Rudge (guitar/vocals), Marcia Richards (keys/sax/flute/vocals), Jamie Kyriakides (drums/vocals), and Jonathan Doyle (bass)—have built a reputation as one of the most exciting and genre-defying bands on the scene today.
Since their debut album Live. Breathe. Build. Believe. (2009), The Skints have pushed the boundaries of British reggae, weaving in influences from hip-hop, grime, and soul. With albums like Part & Parcel (2012) and FM (2015), they refined their signature blend of socially conscious lyrics and groove-driven rhythms, earning a dedicated global fanbase.
Their latest release, Swimming Lessons (2019), saw the band explore deeper emotional themes while still delivering the high-energy, sun-soaked sound they’re known for. Constantly evolving and never standing still, The Skints continue to light up stages worldwide, bringing their infectious energy to festival crowds and club shows alike.
