Ugly Kid Joe, Rock City, Nottingham - 23rd March 2024
Ugly Kid Joe is an American rock band formed in 1989 in Isla Vista, California, known for their irreverent attitude, infectious hooks, and blend of hard rock, funk metal, and alternative influences. They first burst onto the scene with their debut EP, As Ugly as They Wanna Be (1991), which became the first EP in history to achieve multi-platinum status in the U.S. Their debut full-length album, America’s Least Wanted (1992), featured the hit single “Everything About You,” which reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart and appeared in the cult film Wayne’s World, solidifying the band’s place in early ’90s rock culture.
Following albums like Menace to Sobriety (1995) and Motel California (1996) showcased their ability to blend heavy riffs with melodic sensibilities and tongue-in-cheek humor. After disbanding in 1997, the band reunited in 2010, returning to the studio with Uglier Than They Used ta Be (2015) and most recently Rad Wings of Destiny (2022). Known for their high-energy live performances and devoted fanbase, Ugly Kid Joe remains a formidable presence in rock, bridging nostalgia with contemporary relevance.
