I've always wanted to see Mr Ashcroft in concert, and when I heard he was coming to Newmarket racecourse I knew I just had to be there. The show followed the last horse race of the evening and started on time with Richard and his backing band launching into 'Sonnet'. Could they and the sound crew recreate the production of 'Urban Hymns'? The answer was a resounding yes. I've been to loads of gigs over the years and only a handful have truly captured the sound of the studio recording. Obviously each song was expanded and 'pumped up' for the live audience, but each was spot on to the sound and feel Richard was aiming to craft in the studio. The nine song set covered all the Verve hits and most of Richard's solo epics too. Would have loved to have seen 'C'mon People' on the setlist with a guest appearance from Mr Gallagher, but I guess we'll have to wait for that. Friends who also attended agreed with me that they were blown away by this show. And it was all done without overblown pomp - no video projection, no laser show, no long anecdotes between songs. Just simple introductions and a couple of touching tributes (to Kate and a lucky audience member). That was all that was needed, as the songs spoke for themselves. So if Richard and his band are heading your way, I unreservedly recommend seeing them to their thing. You won't be disappointed. And if you're going to see Oasis this summer, you might just find the starter more wholesome than the main course. Bon appetit!

Richard Ashcroft, Newmarket Racecourses, Newmarket - 27th June 2025
Richard Ashcroft was simply wonderful. He performed with passion and really engaged with the crowd. It was great to hear some of the classic Verve tracks as well as his solo stuff. For me, it just wasn’t long enough (just over an hour) but then I suppose it was an after races gig. I would personally have loved to hear History, Love is Noise and Weeping Willow but what I did hear was bliss so no complaints! A fantastic performer who has very much still got it!

Richard Ashcroft, Dreamland, Margate - 12th July 2024
The system of leaving the festival was terrible. Waited over an hour for our taxi to get to us and the security were not letting taxis gain access. That’s my only complaint. People were saying they wouldn’t go again because of this and I have to agree this would need to change for me to go again

Heritage Live 2023 - Richard Ashcroft, Englefield House, Berkshire - 22nd July 2023
Richard Ashcroft is a celebrated English singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the frontman of the iconic alternative rock band The Verve. Born in 1971 in Wigan, Ashcroft rose to prominence in the 1990s with The Verve, whose groundbreaking album Urban Hymns (1997) became a defining moment in British rock music. Featuring hit singles like "Bitter Sweet Symphony" and "The Drugs Don’t Work," the album earned critical acclaim and commercial success, propelling Ashcroft into the spotlight. His distinctive voice and emotionally charged lyrics became central to the band's sound, blending rock, psychedelia, and orchestral elements.
After The Verve disbanded in the late 1990s, Ashcroft launched a successful solo career, releasing albums such as Alone with Everybody (2000), Human Conditions (2002), and These People (2016). Known for his poetic and introspective songwriting, Ashcroft’s solo work retains the same emotional depth and power as his work with The Verve. A dynamic live performer, Ashcroft has played to huge crowds at festivals like Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds, continuing to captivate audiences with his timeless voice and profound lyrics. Richard Ashcroft remains one of the most influential and enduring figures in British rock music.
