Incredible Energetic Performance

The Wonder Stuff always deliver an amazing and energetic performance. So many great songs that get everyone jumping! The O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire is also a brilliant venue for the show - personal (not too large) and able to get a good view with easily accessible bars.

Full Marks.

Another great performance from a criminally under-rated band. All the songs were delivered faithfully and with conviction, and the band were enjoying themselves just as much as the crowd. Excellent.

The Wonder Stuff, O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire, London - 20th December 2024

The Wonder Stuff are a British alternative rock band formed in the Birmingham and Black Country area in (1986), led by songwriter and vocalist Miles Hunt. Emerging from the UK indie underground, they first released independent EPs on their own Far Out Recording Company before signing to Polydor later that year. Their early run of albums — The Eight Legged Groove Machine (1988), Hup (1989), Never Loved Elvis (1991) and Construction for the Modern Idiot (1993) — established them as one of the era’s defining bands, combining sharp wit, melodic urgency and Hunt’s unmistakably candid songwriting. During this period, they scored a string of Top 20 singles, including collaborations with Kirsty MacColl and the number one hit “Dizzy”, recorded with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer.

Renowned as a formidable live band, The Wonder Stuff spent their formative years touring extensively across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and Japan, selling hundreds of thousands of records and achieving major live milestones such as multiple sold-out nights at Brixton Academy and a headline slot at Reading Festival. Despite line-up changes over the years, the band have remained creatively active, releasing later albums including Escape from Rubbish Island (2004), Suspended by Stars (2006), Oh No… It’s The Wonder Stuff (2012), 30 Goes Around the Sun (2016) and Better Being Lucky (2019). Anchored by Miles Hunt and supported by a seasoned line-up of musicians, The Wonder Stuff continue to be celebrated for their longevity, integrity and enduring place in British indie music.
