What a great gig, it's the first time I have been to the open air theatre in Scarborough but thought the venue was really good, plus we got the good weather. The Charlatans were amazing playing a mix of old and new from such an extensive back catalogue. Love you gus, Keep on rocking ...believe me you've still got it!!!

The Charlatans, Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough - 16th June 2017
Led by the enigmatic singer and songwriter Tim Burgess, The Charlatans were central figures in the Madchester scene and went on to become one of the defining bands of the Britpop era. Formed in 1988, the line-up features Martin Blunt (bass), Mark Collins (guitar) and Tony Rogers (keys, backing vocals), with the group’s sound blending jangly indie, soulful grooves and a uniquely Northern sense of swagger. Their major hit singles include “The Only One I Know”, “North Country Boy”, “One to Another” and “How High” — songs that captured the optimism and spirit of their era.
Their debut Some Friendly (1990) made an immediate impact, hitting No. 1 in the UK and announcing them as one of the country’s most exciting new bands. Follow-up albums such as The Charlatans (1995) and Tellin’ Stories (1997) cemented their status, the latter becoming a landmark of British guitar music and home to some of their most enduring anthems. Over three decades on, The Charlatans remain a vital and much-loved part of UK music, known for their resilience, reinvention and timeless live performances.
